“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
To receive God’s free gift of eternal life in Heaven you must first recognize that you are a sinner. The Bible says,
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)
Second, you must then realize that because you are a sinner you deserve eternal punishment in hell. God says, “For the wages of sin is death… And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:14)
Third, you must believe that Jesus loves you and paid your sin debt in full on the cross. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:8-9)
Finally, you must repent of your sin and trust Jesus alone to forgive you of your sin and give you the free gift of eternal life (heaven). “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast…That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 3:19, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9)
